Training as a Paramedic is an excellent way to give yourself the best possible opportunity to become employed with one of these agencies. In addition to becoming a Paramedic we recommend pursuing firefighter certifications through the State of Utah. There are several methods of obtaining these certifications; however being directly affiliated with any agency as a Paramedic may be the best route.
The State of Utah's Bureau of EMS has recetnly transitioned to the National Registry of EMT's for testing. What this means for you is taht you will be expected to meet NREMT requirements specific to the National Educational Standards while passing all National Exams and skill testing. More on this topic can be found at www.nremt.org.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
All our programs are intense and begin with lots of studying. You should expect to get a copy of our Mt Nebo Drug Book from one of our staff and begin studying before your class starts. Our courses require Paramedic Students to be in Department or Mt Nebo Uniform during class and clinical times. For this we provide you with 2 golf shirts and 2 tee shirts, the required pants are on you. We will provide more information on this during orientation.

The initial months of class are filled with foundational lectures of the Paramedic. These lectures will prepare you for the rest of class and the topics to come. As the class progresses you will sign up for your clinical experiences and once you are deemed ready to proceed into the clinical field off you shall go. During your clinical experience you will be graded and evaluated by your preceptors on many areas of competency. These clinical experiences will be completed in Emergency Rooms, ICU's, Labor and Delivery settings, and many other in-hospital locations. Your classroom sessions will continue throughout your clinical rotations and be scheduled so that you do not miss any of your required classroom activities.

As you finish up your clinical rotations you will then prepare for your Fire Department Rides with one or more of our EMS providers throughout the Wasatch Front. While these agencies expect you to work and perform as a competent Paramedic and EMS Professional they will also be grading and evaluating your skill level.
